The Hawaii State Public Library System (HSPLS) will present a Teen Summer Reading Finale for its 2019 Summer Reading Program on Saturday, August 3rd from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon at Center Stage.
Celebrating “A Universe of Stories,” Hawaii’s public libraries encouraged teens and readers of all ages to learn about space, science fiction, the ancient Polynesian skill of wayfinding, and Hawaii’s role in astronomical research and discovery. This summer, thousands of participants enjoyed books, ebooks, audiobooks, and more, logged a collective total of over 16 million minutes, attended programs and completed fun activities in HSPLS branches from June 1 to July 13th.
For the past 27 years, Hawaii Pizza Hut has provided teen prizes and sponsored a special Oahu event for teens who participated in the Summer Reading Program. It is a way to celebrate their reading accomplishments.
Cheer on 25 teens representing libraries across the island as they vie to win cool tech and experience prizes by participating in pizza and space-themed games at the Teen Finale event. Radio personality Lina Girl Langi of Hawaiian 105 KINE will serve as emcee. Teen singer and rising local star Andromeda Tong will be performing.
The HSPLS Summer Reading Program is sponsored by The Friends of the Library of Hawai‘i and their Summer Reading Sponsors.
